A WORD FOR THOUGHT 2
They say "A man who stands for nothing is likely to fall for anything". I therefore dare to ask "Mr President", "What exactly do you stand for"? A child who inherits his father's wealth is most likely to squander it and this is simply because he has little or no clue of how such wealth was gathered. I stand to be corrected that "Mr President" is a good example of a child who inherited his father's wealth. Tracing his history in politics, he has been inheriting virtually every political appointment/ post and this explains why most of the issues in the country have been mis-managed. The rich are getting richer everyday and the poor getting poorer and this is solely down to the government policies which favours a particular sect. Youths are out of school and loitering about the streets and instead of something significant being done, frivolities are being discussed. When would we get a sense of direction and focus in this country? When would our leaders begin to get sensitive to the cry of the masses who put them in power? When would our leaders start seeing thier position in power as an opportunity to serve the people? There are incessant killings everywhere and the police who "supposedly" are to protect lives and properties of the citizens are instead killing innocent souls while the criminals are "lounging". People are out there languishing in poverty and penury while some are lavishing in public funds. A Nigerian Senator earns three (3) times more than America's President. What examples are our leaders setting? Where are they drawing examples from? Our nation is deterrorating on a per-minute basis and nothing significant seems to be done other than empty promises and assurances. Every year, Universities graduate students into the NYSC platform and subsequently, the NYSC graduates these youths into the unemployment market. Crime is on the increase, youths can no longer go to school, parents send thier children for masters with the hope that when they get back, they would find jobs but unfortunately, thats not the story. An American once said that in thier own country, all they do is go to college and thats all. Majority of those who go to the Universities for either B.Sc or M.Sc actually do that with the intention of lecturing or teaching as the case maybe. In Nigeria, we go to school and I wonder what all we are taught are used for? Nigeria needs to get out of its dulldrums and face the reality of a nation who wants to progress. Now Asuu has made it demands but the federal government is Unwilling to meet thier demands. I imagine it were to be the senators that made a demand to the federal government, such demands would have been long met. Mis-placement of priorities again. Lets not all forget that both the senators and the President were put in power by the masses and now they turn deaf ears to the cry and request of these same masses. Nigerian Youths have to stand up and take our future by the horn. All of these things happening in Nigeria at present are no different from what led to the French Revolution in France. Are we waiting for a revolution before things get done the right way? Do we need bloodshed to get our priroties right? Or maybe the leaders have studied the youths to be weak and likened us to "toothless barking dogs"? They probably know what to do to silence the Nigerian youth who has lost his sense of belonging. Arise Nigeria, Arise Nigerian Youths. The battle is ours, Our future lies before our very eyes and we watch it being sold for a cheap. Lets all rise and make efforts to better our nation. Its not one person's duty to do this but our collective responsibility to take this nation to greater heights. Once again. GOD BLESS NIGERIA.
